TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Yesaya 5:25

Konteks

5:25 So the Lord is furious 1  with his people;

he lifts 2  his hand and strikes them.

The mountains shake,

and corpses lie like manure 3  in the middle of the streets.

Despite all this, his anger does not subside,

and his hand is ready to strike again. 4

Yesaya 7:4

Konteks
7:4 Tell him, ‘Make sure you stay calm! 5  Don’t be afraid! Don’t be intimidated 6  by these two stubs of smoking logs, 7  or by the raging anger of Rezin, Syria, and the son of Remaliah.

Yesaya 37:29

Konteks

37:29 Because you rage against me

and the uproar you create has reached my ears, 8

I will put my hook in your nose, 9

and my bridle between your lips,

and I will lead you back

the way you came.”

Yesaya 51:22

Konteks

51:22 This is what your sovereign master, 10  the Lord your God, says:

“Look, I have removed from your hand

the cup of intoxicating wine, 11

the goblet full of my anger. 12

You will no longer have to drink it.

[5:25]  1 tn Heb “the anger of the Lord rages.”

[5:25]  2 tn Or “extends”; KJV, ASV “he hath stretched forth.”

[5:25]  3 tn Or “garbage” (NCV, CEV, NLT); NAB, NASB, NIV “refuse.”

[5:25]  4 tn Heb “in all this his anger is not turned, and still his hand is outstretched.”

[7:4]  5 tn Heb “guard yourself and be quiet,” but the two verbs should be coordinated.

[7:4]  6 tn Heb “and let not your heart be weak”; ASV “neither let thy heart be faint.”

[7:4]  7 sn The derogatory metaphor indicates that the power of Rezin and Pekah is ready to die out.

[37:29]  8 tc Heb “and your complacency comes up into my ears.” The parallelism is improved if שַׁאֲנַנְךָ (shaanankha, “your complacency”) is emended to שְׁאוֹנְךָ (shÿonÿkha, “your uproar”). See M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 237-38. However, the LXX seems to support the MT and Sennacherib’s cavalier dismissal of Yahweh depicts an arrogant complacency (J. N. Oswalt, Isaiah [NICOT], 1:658, n. 10).

[37:29]  9 sn The word-picture has a parallel in Assyrian sculpture. See M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 238.

[51:22]  10 tn The Hebrew term translated “sovereign master” here is אֲדֹנָי (’adonay).

[51:22]  11 tn Heb “the cup of [= that causes] staggering” (so ASV, NAB, NRSV); NASB “the cup of reeling.”

[51:22]  12 tn Heb “the goblet of the cup of my anger.”
